The beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii is unlike any of the other islands - miles and miles of midnight-black lava and green meadows; cool, misty rain forests; and long golden beaches create this tropical paradise. This is big country. The Big Island of Hawaii has a landmass that is twice the size of all the other Hawaiian Islands combined. The youngest, largest, and grandest of all the Hawaiian Islands is still growing…one of the world’s most active volcanoes (safe to see, awesome to observe) is still adding land to the Big Island everyday.
Of all the Hawaiian Islands, the Big Island boasts the most variety in terms of climate, terrain and scenery. It is easily the most diverse island, with unique natural wonders and distinct regions that have their own intrinsic charm. Not the least of these is Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano. Kilauea volcano, on Mauna Loa's southern flank, has been continuously erupting since 1983 and every day makes the Big Island even bigger.
Hilton Waikoloa Village is located at the base of Mauna Kea, whose summit reaches to 13,796 feet (4,205 meters). In fact, when measured from its base on the ocean floor, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world (31,796 feet/9,691 meters), surpassing Mount Everest (29,035 feet/8,850 meters)!
While on the island, you can delve into the Big Island’s romantic history; enjoy its superb golf, tennis, hiking, fishing, and all watersports, or just the satisfaction of being on a large, scenic, and friendly island in the middle of the world’s mightiest ocean.
